More and more people in Germany have less and less interest in news. At the same time, trust in the news continues to decline. These are two central statements of the Digital News Report 2023 (summarised in German here).
That sounds bad. But it is also at least this: A challenge to reach people with information where they are digitally and in a format that suits this digital location.
In the case of explaining economic interrelations (my profession), this means: We have to break new ground. Communication has to be renewed, has to become more colourful, concise and pointed. At the same time, what is told must remain correct and valid.
Helping to shape this change will be my new challenge.
Because scientifically based information is so important. It is true that never before have more people had more opportunities to obtain correct information quickly and in-depth. At the same time, those who follow their interests with spreading false information also have never had more options.
Which development will prevail?
I want to contribute that economic knowledge can spread better in all media. Therefore, I am starting a new venture that will answer questions like these: What must economic knowledge look like in the digital age? Which formats are needed on which platforms? Which age and social groups can be reached with which preparation of knowledge? To what extent can finding best practice examples help not reinventing the wheel?
Strategy AND implementation – that’s the plan. Why? Because it’s fun. And because an informed society is the bedrock for maintaining institutions and values that preserve democracy, freedom and the rule of law.
I am looking forward to an exciting journey!

We are about to build up a company (called “Die Dezentrale” with my friend Nils Hesse). So there is more to come… :-) And you can also subscribe to this blog in the upper right corner of this site.

Thank you very much for the information. I know Hesse from my old days in the Hayek Society’s junior politics group, even if Freiburg is a bit more my cup of tea than Vienna, at least in terms of dogma history.
I am curious.
